Prostate Artery Embolization
A Minimally Invasive Solution for BPH

Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive procedure offered at Raleigh Radiology to help men experiencing urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). PAE offers an alternative to surgery, providing relief with less downtime and fewer risks.
Our interventional radiologists will review your health history and symptoms to determine if PAE is the best treatment for you during a consultation at our Midtown office.

What is a prostate artery embolization procedure?
Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment for symptoms of an enlarged prostate (BPH). It’s performed as an outpatient procedure, so you can go home the same day—no hospital stay required.
During the procedure, you’ll receive medication to help you relax and stay comfortable. An Interventional Radiologist uses a thin, tube-like catheter to block blood flow to the prostate, helping it shrink and improve urinary symptoms like frequency and weak stream.
What is the recovery process and timeline?
Most patients return to normal activities within a couple of days—some even immediately.
Is a prostate artery embolization covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies cover PAE as a treatment for BPH.
