Dr. John Bardini remembers his father working out with weights in the 1970s and attributes his love of physical fitness to his father's example. “I would imitate him and his workouts, and he got me interested in sports from an early age.” John is still dedicated to fitness and leads an active life with lifting, hot yoga, golf, and walking as essential parts of his life. He has recently become a devotee of the sauna/cold plunge routine that is currently very popular, and pickleball may also be in his future. His musculoskeletal radiology interest may seem natural, given his interest in fitness. However, he says it came from his mentor, Dr. Larry Dixon, because Dr. Dixon was passionate and made the field exciting and fun. “I clicked with it and the relationship to sports medicine. I am fascinated by anatomy and find it intellectually stimulating.” Even with his fitness activities and busy work life, John has the simple goal of being the best father and husband; family is critical to him. So important that he is planning a trip to Italy with his family to see his ancestral home of Parma, where “his people are from.” However, he also enjoys traveling as a pursuit and hopes to visit Australia and New Zealand as a family adventure. Still, he loves his home in North Carolina. “I grew up in New Jersey and then trained in Chicago, but I enjoy the people, music, and culture of the South.” The North Carolina weather is also a plus, but he says, “I love the ‘Southern Charm’ of the area!” As a busy man, time is precious, but he finds it imperative to let time ‘stand still’ with his patients. “I want to be completely present for the patient; I truly focus and listen to their concerns to advise them and answer all their questions.” Of course, he stays current on the latest information in the constantly evolving field of radiology as new research, knowledge, and cutting-edge technology emerge to help his patients be better served. Caring for his patients at Raleigh Radiology Imaging Centers allows him and his partners to provide more timely care. “Working with like-minded colleagues and partners and doing what’s best for the patients,” he says, is where he finds his impact most meaningful.
