As she enjoys her success as a doctor helping her patients, Dr. Amie McPherson loves being a mom to her two young children. Being a pediatric radiologist, she spends time with a lot of fellow parents at times when they have concerns. “Getting their results fast is important because they worry about their kids. Parents appreciate the time I take to listen to them when giving results; just listening to their concerns and hearing their issues.” In addition, she enjoys working with young patients at Raleigh Radiology and WakeMed. “There is,” says Dr. McPherson, “an emotional pull in working with patients and parents the same age as your kids. Seeing kids in pain is challenging.” However, she knows the opportunity to collaborate with her colleagues at RR and those doctors in the pediatric subspecialties and the emergency department at WakeMed allows her patients to have the time, expertise, and attention to provide an excellent treatment plan.
Amie loves watching her kids play soccer, T-ball, and basketball. They all look forward to sometimes quieter activities like card games and outdoor activities. She joyfully anticipates spending more time doing these things with her family and traveling with them. After spending all the time it takes to earn her degree, complete her residency, and the training necessary to be a pediatric radiologist, she enjoys spending time with her young family while relishing her professional career success. The fact that her career is helping families like hers makes it all the more meaningful.
