“I am glad I did it in that order,” says Dr. Kirk Peterson when discussing his time working in physical therapy before attending medical school. “I spent all day working with patients one-on-one for seven years,” he says. This experience gave him relational skills crucial in providing his patients an environment to promote trust and reassurance. After almost 13 years working at Raleigh Radiology, he couldn’t picture himself doing anything else. Dr. Peterson values his role as a compassionate physician and prioritizes collaborating with partners and other professionals to optimize patient care. “Radiologists are often called the ‘Drs. doc’,” he explains, “because they help physicians in other specialties diagnose and treat their patients.” He enthusiastically says that, while there are many “after hours” spent consulting, “he couldn’t see himself doing anything else.”

Kirk is family centered and spends as much time as he can with his wife, son, and daughter. His daughter will head off to college this fall and is playing on The University of Tampa Beach Volleyball Team. He is excited to watch her play in his home state of Florida. He enjoys golfing with his son and parents and has been a youth leader at his church for the last five years. He says watching youth grow in their service and faith is very gratifying. In addition, Kirk loves tennis, long-distance hiking, and traveling whenever he gets the opportunity. Kirk’s current professional goal is to continue to help the practice grow and thrive to deliver high-quality imaging services to the community.
